What are Dental Implants?

|
Implants today are safe and quickly insertable, thanks to intensive research and practical experience for years: If it is possible to extract a patient's tooth, then it is medically possible to insert an implant.
An implant is a artificial tooth root, that is being securely operated into the healthy jaw bone. This artificial root is then capable of carrying one ore more teeth for life. The principle can be compared to a screw, fitted into a plug, that can carry heavy weights. With these implants can replace single teeth or a whole set of teeth.

Who Can Receive Implants?
Basically everybody of every age can receive implants. A prerequisite in young people is the completed growth process, the patient should be at lead 20-22 years old. Otherwise only the general operability, certified by a doctor, has to be proven. Common diseases such as diabetes and or cardiac and circulatory troubles, do not present an obstacle to the treatment.

The Material: Titan
The implants we use are made up of extremely durable, corrosion enduring and very firm metal titan. The biggest advantage of titan is that it does not provoke an immunal rejection reaction (implant allergies) because the body does not see it as a foreign object.
The bone cells bond closely with the titan: The titan oxide layer allows the accretion of the jawbone to the implant (the so called osseo integration), and therefore the firm fitting of the artificial implant into the human body.

Implants in the Lower Jaw
A nerve, the "nervus mandibularis", leaves the human jawbone on the right and left side of the jawbone. The implant will be fixed at a 30 degrees angle between these emersion points so that it reaches as far back as possible, to gain maximum brace support for the new teeth. Two more stilts will be fitted into the front area. In most cases these four stilts allow for the fixation of twelve new teeth.

Implants in the Upper Jaw
The maxillary air sinuses and the nasal floor generally restrict the areas where implants can be placed. We differentiate two different situations:
There is enough bone in the frontal area. Four implants will be placed in such a way that they reach as far back as possible (at an angle along the anatomy of the jawbones). Two more will be placed in the frontal area. This is enough to anchor twelve teeth.
The bone volume is not sufficient as a base for the four necessary implants. In this case we us so called "Zygoma" implants. With these very long screws, we can find firm hold on the inner base of the cheekbone (the so called "os zygomatikum").
The first dentition is made from high-quality synthetics and can be worn for up to three years. Normally it is replaced after four months by a higher quality dentition with tissue-friendly material (Zircon Ceramics).
